The VMA's were earlier this night and the pre-show started with a couple awards and a couple big notes. For example, right off the bat Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose came out with a big surprise that Amber Rose is officially pregnant and she is due in about 6-7 months. Along with that Ke$ha was there and actually looked like a normal person and she revealed that she re-discovered herself and her upcoming album will have more of a rock feel to it. Along with some of this news, there were also two awards that were given. The first award:
Best Video with a Message: Demi Lovato - Skyscraper
The second award that followed was:
Best EPM: Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
After these two awards and news items the actual award show started off with a dynamic perfromance by Rihanna who emerged out a giant snake in the background. Although, she kind of looked like a character from Aladdin, she instantly went into the song "Cockines (Love It)" and gave a quick grab to her breast. All of a sudden A$AP Rocky popped out of nowhere and spit his verse from the remix and then surprisingly Rihanna and A$AP got real close and he gave Rihanna a little kiss on the neck. After this moment, Rihanna started to sing her song "We Found Love" with the DJ for the night, Calvin Harris.
After the performance, Kevin Hart came out in an elaborate entrance and began the usual hosting monologue. During this monologue he focused a lot on the Chris Brown/Drake fight and Kirsten Stewart sleeping with the Snow White & The Huntsman director. After the monologue the first actual award of the show was given for the night
Best Pop Video: One Direction (whatever the song is)
After the little boy band got their award, Kevin Hart introduced the newest Los Angeles Laker, Dwight Howard. As they were talking on stage Dwight busts out a jersey telling Kevin that he finally got him one - the only thing is, the jersey was like a dress on Kevin since he basically is a midget. Eventually Dwight introduces the second act of the night, which is P!nk. P!nk always has boss performances and this one was no exception starting off with one of her classic songs "Let's Get This Party Started," and then going into her newest single "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)." The peformance ended with P!nk riding a pair of lips up towards the ceiling.
After the P!nk performance the next award was given out which was,
Best Male Video: Chris Brown - Turn Up The Music
After the award for Chris Brown, the best performance of the night in my mind came. It was the new artist Frank Ocean performing his new single from Channel Orange titled "Thinkin About You." The performance was absolutely amazing and took me by surprise the subtle emotions that Frank displayed during the performance. After this boss perfromance, the next video was given out which was
Best Hip Hop Video: Drake - HYFR Ft Lil Wayne
YMCMB did not have long to wait for another celebration because after a lackluster performance by that one dumb boy band, there was another award and this one was for
Best Female Video - Nicki Minaj - Starships
After these two quick awards, MTV responded back with 2 great performances dealing with three amazing artists. The first performance started off with the slow deep bass from 2 Chainz's track "Yuck." 2 Chainz spit his whole first verse no problem and got the crowd completely into it, and then Lil Wayne came riding upon his skateboard singing the chorus. After the chorus the track cuts out and goes to the newest track by Lil Wayne titled "No Worries" from his newest mixtape which will be on the upcoming album I Am Not A Human Being II. Weezy completely killed his performance and the crowd was completely riled up for the next performer which was Green Day. Green Day came out and showed why they are going to go down as one of the most amazing punk rock groups ever with their performance of "Let Yourself Go." The performance was so good that the crowd surrounded them began to jump all over them.
Well then came the Best New Artist award which was voted by the fans - well it was said it was but it probably wasn't - was decided to be Wrong Direction. After this came the performance by Alicia Keys. She started off by herself on stage performing her new single called "Girl On Fire." Alicia Keys used her hardcore vocals to belt the lyrics and then out of nowhere Nicki Minaj popped up, and she spit her verse which is on the Inferno Remix of the song. Along with Nicki and Alicia being on stage the Fab Five Gymnasts came out and Gabby Douglas - cheesily - began to do some gymnastics on the stage.
After this performance, the show culminated in the two most important parts of the night - Best Video and the final performance. With the nominations of the artists for Best Video of the Year it is not surprising that at the MTV VMA's a corporate singer was chosen as best video - Rihanna. With that being said Taylor Swift saved the end of the show with her performance of her track "We Are Never Getting Back Together." Make sure to try to watch the award show as it gets replayed 15000 times.
