KSPN and Music Industry News

KSPN is back!!! After a couple of weeks because of finals for college, I have finally finished them and now it is time to get to work.  Below this post I have posted a ton of items that have built up over the past couple weeks including albums, music videos and singles.  However, I need to add in some news about what has been going on around the music industry.  First of all by far one of the most tragic news in the music world recently was the lost of Adam Yauch, also known as MCA of the Beastie Boys.  Adam was fighting for over 3 years with cancer, which also caused him to miss the acceptance ceremony of the Beastie Boys into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Adam was pivotal and influential character in the music industry not only with his musical influence, but also because of his humanitarian work which spread all over the world.  Below I have posted one of the Beastie Boys' music videos which was actually the last one that Adam Yauch worked with and an award.  It was for the track "Make Some Noise"

On a similar note the long-time saxophonist who worked with the Killers, Tommy Math, also passed away with these last couple weeks.  Both of these losses are truly tragic and hopefully their work will not be forgotten in the future.

On the other hand, there has been a bunch of news from various artists being back into work, making progress on some upcoming projects.  First of all, after the success from his second album, Take Care, Drake has apparently already started to work on a third album to follow the successes from his first two.  Along with Drake working on his third album, Vampire Weekend has been hard at work to follow up their success from their second album, Contra.  Along with people in the studio, there has also been word of some set dates for upcoming album releases.  One of the biggest mentions was that after 11 years No Doubt will be releasing an album by the end of the year on September 25th.

Another group hoping to release an album by the end of the year or early 2013, is the always popular group Pearl Jam.  Another rock group that is going to be releasing an album is The Darkness.  This group is famous for their song "I Believe In A Thing Called Love," and their new album Hot Cakes will be released on August 20th.  On the other hand, in the rap industry along with Drake, some other big names have set dates for their albums.  For example, Rick Ross has set a July 31st release date for his upcoming album God Forgives, I Don't.  Furthermore, long-time MC, Nas has set a July 17th release date for his upcoming album Life is Good.  Only a few weeks before this date Chris Brown's album Fortune which was pushed back from May 29th to July 3 will be released.  Finally in other news, since the recent release of Jack White's solo album, Blunderbuss, he has been offered to fully work on the soundtrack for the motion picture The Lone Ranger, which will be in production soon
